The California Food Banks (https://www.cafoodbanks.org/) is a state-wide network focused on addressing hunger. Through the LFPA program, Yubakami has had the privilege of serving that mission in a number of local member food banks in Yuba, Sutter, Nevada, Placer, Shasta and Siskiyou Counties.
Warehouse staff (below see our friends at the Yuba-Sutter bank) receives the deliveries, organizes and stores them, and participates in distributions throughout their region. They collaborate with community partners to ensure the widest possible reach, serving those in need wherever they are to be found.
These local heroes are thrilled when we arrive at the warehouse door, happy to see the bright colors and palpable vitality of the produce we bring from local farmers. When they subsequently distribute this largesse, it feels like passing out Christmas gifts: not just food (and not even just nutrient-dense food!), but also an expression of connectedness and affection.
